Facelift, Rhytidectomy, Neck lift
A facelift remains the gold standard surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. A number of types of facelift can be performed, and it is important that the best one for you is chosen, after a thorough consultation, a careful clinical examination, and a complete understanding of your expectations, downtime available and budget.
Facelifts involve a scar that follows the contours of the ear - starting in the sideburn area and going down to the earlobe, and where necessary behind the ear and into the hairline at the back. The skin is lifted up from the deeper tissues, and it is the deeper tissues that are tightened and lifted which give the natural refreshed appearance that should be the result of every facelift. The skin is then gently redraped and any excess is removed, prior to stitches being used to close the wounds.
Depending on the type and extent of the facelift, it may either be performed under a local anaesthetic (with or without sedation), or more commonly with you asleep under a general anaesthetic. This is something that will be discussed with you during your consultation with your Purity Bridge Consultant Plastic Surgeon.
A modern facelift gives the longest lasting and most comprehensive facial rejuvenation of all procedures. It has stood the test of time, and the techniques used by the Consultant Plastic Surgeons at Purity Bridge are the very latest that have been shown to produce the best results..

Depending upon the type of facelift, surgery may take between 3-4 hours. If other adjunctive procedures (such as surgery to the brow or eyelids) are performed, then this will add on further time.
The recovery time depends on the extent of the procedure – after a comprehensive facelift it is recommended that no social engagements are planned for 3-weeks, and there is a 6-week wait until going back to exercise. For less extensive procedures, social engagements may be planned for 2-weeks or so after surgery.
Heavy lifting and sporting activity should not be undertaken for 6-weeks. Driving may start at 2-3 weeks, depending on how well you are healing.
Like any surgical procedures, a facelift has a risk of complications. Our Purity Bridge Consultant Plastic Surgeons take every care possible to minimise these, however, the following might still occur:
Further complications and risks are detailed in our comprehensive facelift booklet – please contact the clinic and we will send you a copy.
