Lateral Temporal Brow Lift
THE PROCEDURE
The first area of our face to show the signs of ageing is our outer brow, or lateral brow. This starts to drop and initiates the tired, ageing and heaviness many people notice around their eyes, also contributing to an appearance of skin excess in the outer brow. An ingenious solution to this is the lateral temporal brow lift. This opens up the outer brow, providing a fresher appearance and opening up your eye area.Who carries out this treatment?
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
A lateral temporal brow lift is performed as a day case procedure with you asleep in the hospital. It is frequently combined with an upper eyelid lift, and may also be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures. It will result in scars around an inch long hidden within the hairline on each temple. No hair is shaved for the procedure, so the scars are camouflaged from the beginning.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The benefits of the lateral temporal lift are that it supports the outer brow as an "anti-gravity" procedure, providing a subtle fresh and natural change, alleviating the heaviness of the brow.

Other thoughts regarding Lateral Temporal Lifts
If done on its own, the procedure takes around 45-60 minutes. If combined with other procedures, the time will of course be longer.
The recovery from a lateral temporal lift is rapid, and most people can return to light duties (desk work) within a week of surgery. However, the skin closure clips will be removed at 2-weeks. Immediately after surgery there might be some bruising and swelling, but with cool packs and keeping upright these settle quickly. Whilst hidden in the hairline, the scars will be puckered for a month or two, before flattening down. There can also be a temporary dimple in the skin in the temporal hairline, and some numbness around the surgical area.
As for any surgical procedure, it is important to take it easy after surgery. In order to get the swelling and bruising to settle as quickly as possible, we recommend head elevation on 2-3 pillows for the first two weeks after surgery. You can apply make-up the day after surgery and get back to light duties at work a week later. Gentle hair washing can start 2-days after surgery.
This is a very successful procedure, particularly when combined with an upper blepharoplasty. It provides a freshness and smoothness to the outer eye area as if an amazing skin cream has been used!
Like any surgical procedure, there are risks and complications associated with a lateral temporal brow lift. These can include the following:
- Wound problems, such as infection and delayed healing
- Bleeding, that may require a wound washout
- Numbness around the wound
- Rarely there can be damage to the nerve that lifts the eyebrow - if it occurs it is usually temporary and will recover after several weeks or possibly months
Revision surgery might be needed to make any adjustments in your result - rates can be around 20%
