Otoplasty

About the procedure

Otoplasty is a procedure to reshape your ears. It is usually done to reduce the prominence (how far they stick out) of your ears.

What does it involve?

Otoplasty involves reshaping the cartilage (rubbery internal scaffold giving the ear shape and structure) to reduce how far out they stick and to get a better overall shape for your ear. This is done via an incision in the crease behind your ear so there is no visible scar on the outer side of your ear.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What are the benefits?

Otoplasty improves the shape of your ear and reduces how far out they stick. If this is something that you are conscious of, otoplasty can make a hugely positive difference.

2

How long before daily activities may be resumed?

You can be out and about the same day (but you will have a head band in place in the early period). Usually up to one week off work is sufficient. There will be some form of exercise restriction for six weeks.

3

What are the success rates?

Otoplasty has a high success and patient satisfaction rating. There is a small risk of recurrence or relapse of the original shape but for most patients, otoplasty has a permanent effect on the shape of their ears.
