With advances in techniques of delivering local anaesthetic, it is remarkable what we are now able to perform under local anaesthetic, i.e. with patients awake. These procedures include some operations on the face, the breasts and also the body.

It can be patient dependent, and not all patients will be deemed suitable for a wide-awake approach. Furthermore, not all techniques can be performed with an awake patient, either due to the complexity of the surgery, the length of time the operation may take or for other patient-related factors, such as their peace of mind and comfort.

However, we are delighted to be able to offer a number of procedures that can be performed when you are awake. This often means a more rapid recovery and no after-effects of a general anaesthetic. Our Consultant Plastic Surgeons will suggest a local anaesthetic approach whenever they deem it suitable. However, one thing to point out is that, first and foremost, any procedure must be chosen in conjunction with you and must be the best procedure to achieve the goals as you and your Purity Bridge Consultant Plastic Surgeons are aiming for.

The question of whether a given procedure can then be done under local anaesthetic can then be addressed. In other words, limiting the outcome and range of procedures that you might choose by committing to a local anaesthetic procedure initially is not an approach we advocate. Rather, we advocate arriving at the best procedure for you first, and then determining what anaesthetic approaches might be available.
