Mr Tanner, who is well respected internationally, has gathered a wealth of experience since starting his career. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and member of BAPRAS and BAAPS, he has also served as the Director of the McIndoe Burns Unit.

His energetic and engaging approach has seen him continually pursuing new techniques and innovations. Mr Tanner’s expertise in LASER Therapy stemmed from his time as Consultant Plastic Surgeon in East Grinstead, ensuring him a vast knowledge in skin rejuvenation techniques.

The latest, state of the art LASER is the Pearl Fractional Laser therapy which now resides at Purity Bridge. We asked him to give us his thoughts as we launch this revolutionary treatment.

    1. What is the Pearl Fractional treatment?
Pearl Fractional is a new, volumising, fractional laser perfected for treating wrinkles in just one treatment.   This Laser treatment offers the best combination of patient experience and recovery time. It offers a total solution for treating wrinkles, uneven texture, pore size, pigmentation and sun damage.
    2. What can I do to prepare for the treatment?
First you are assessed in the clinic by the Consultant Plastic Surgeon who decides whether you are suitable for this particular procedure.  If you are, you are started on a course of skin treatment to remove the top layers of your skin so when the laser is give the skin has been prepared for the maximal result.
    3. Does the procedure hurt?
The treatment is performed completely under local anaesthesia with topical anaesthetic cream, and sometimes with local anaesthetic injections.  The cream takes an hour to work and the laser is not activated until you are ready.
    4. How long will the treatment last?
The Pearl Laser treatment is usually one treatment and does not usually require secondary treatments.
    5. What is the downtime?
The downtime is related to the depth of treatment but usually for light treatments it is 4-5 days for deeper treatments 7-8 days.
    6. What can I expect directly after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment you should place Vaseline around your mouth and moisturising cream over your face to help with the skin healing
    7. What are the risks?
On the whole, when carefully performed, the treatment is safe. There is a small risk of scarring and occasionally we see de-pigmentation (i.e. pale patches) with deep treatments.
    8. What are the chances of infection once the skin surface has been removed?
To prevent infection antibiotics are given for the first 5 days.  It is very important that you let your consultant know if you have ever had a cold sore as this treatment can stimulate one.   If you have had this, we will prescribe an anti viral oral medication during the healing process.
    9. How soon can I apply make-up?
You can apply make-up after one week for the lighter treatments and usually after 2 weeks for the deeper treatments.  Improvement is normally visible one week after treatment; maximum results are visible in one to three months.
    10. How often would I need Laser treatment?
Depending on your assessment, you would only need the deep laser treatment once, the lighter laser treatments can be performed as required but usually once every 2-3 years.
