If we told you that you could have liposuction done while enjoying the music and quips of your favourite radio station, would you believe us?
One of our recent patients was nervous at the prospect, however after a cup of coffee to calm the nerves, her fears turned into excitement. Once in the Purity Bridge operating room, with safety checks, paperwork and markings done, she was able to choose her favourite radio station in the background whilst Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Marc Pacifico, supported by his team of nurses, got started.
After the procedure, she commented that “time flew by quickly and the actual procedure was the last thing on my mind”. Mr Pacifico was even able to do the last finishing touches with our patient standing up, to get the best final result possible!
High definition liposuction is suitable for well defined areas of fat accumulation, such as on the saddle bags (outer thighs) or flanks. It is important to appreciate that it is not a weight-loss procedure, but rather a body contouring procedure to address stubborn areas of fat that are hard to lose, despite exercise and a healthy diet. Common areas for liposuction include the waist (love handles), the abdomen, the hips (saddle bags) and the thighs. Other areas in which SAL (suction assisted liposuction) may be used include the neck, knees, back and under the chin. The procedure lasts between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the individual situation.
In the initial period after the procedure, the skin around the treated area can be a little loose – it takes several months for the skin to contract and “shrink wrap” down, and in some cases, up to a year to appreciate the final result. As a rule, the better the skin quality, the better the result.
